3rd expedition planning workshop POLARSTERN operations "Antarctica InSync" and "Arctic Pulse"

The workshop will take place from 24 – 25 April 2025 at “Haus der Wissenschaft” in Bremen and will be jointly organized by NK SCAR/IASC, AWI and the DFG SPP Antarctic Research (see flyer).

In contrast to previous workshops, this time we are not focusing on the long-term development of the general POLARSTERN expedition plan, but want and need to concentrate on the two major campaigns Arctic Pulse (in 2027) and Antarctica InSync (in 2028). In this context, the workshop is intended to give all interested parties an overview of the current planning status of both campaigns. From there, during the workshop both campaigns will be further developed so that it will be possible to start preparing applications for ship time at the Review Panel German Research Vessels (GPF) as soon as possible. Although this year's workshop will focus on these campaigns, with the plan for POLARSTERN to receive another class in 2027, there will also be a look ahead to the period 2028-2030.

Please register by 15 March 2025 indicating your preferences for a specific topic. Please note: if you only wish to participate the workshop for one day, you may also join the overview presentations via video conference. You are welcome to register for the workshop even if you do not present anything. However, we are limited in participant numbers and cannot guarantee participation for non-presenting colleagues.
